That's right, just lather and rinse. But is it really that simple? You'll need to understand the mechanics behind treating cellulite with soap in order to appreciate it completely. Cellulite is simply accumulated fat under the skin, so densely packed that it's stretching the skin and its connective fibers to their limits -- hence the "orange peel" look. Most cellulite fighting soaps contain one or more of these ingredients: seaweed, minerals from the Dead Sea, and caffeine. There may be other, lesser-known ingredients thrown in, but most of the work is done by these ingredients. Here's how they work. #1 - Seaweed and other vegetables from the sea have surprisingly high amounts of antioxidants, which helps the body get rid of toxins and free radicals. Seaweed, either eaten or applied directly on the skin, tends to drain fat cells, making fat easier to burn or redistribute. This is the reason why most cellulite body wraps use seaweed wrap instead of plastic wrap -- every little bit helps! #2 - Dead sea minerals have this unique tendency to reduce cellulite in three ways. First, it encourages blood circulation in your cellulite areas, letting fat burning oxygen in and toxins out. Secondly, it increases skin metabolism where it's applied, boosting fat burn. And lastly, it builds muscle tone -- and muscle, as you may already know, gobbles up fat and calories even when you're not working out. #3 - Caffeine is a bit of a paradox in the cellulite treatment world -- drinking caffeine may actually increase cellulite, but applying it directly on the skin has the opposite effect. Caffeine acts as a diuretic element, making fat cells release their liquid content to be flushed away by the body. With less water in your trouble spots, the skin will look much, much smoother. In addition to these ingredients, most cellulite treatment soaps also have a unique shape -- they're usually easy to hold, and have several lumpy protrusions on their faces. These protrusions also have a special role to play -- they make the lathering motion deliver their ingredients more deeply into the skin. The massaging action also helps metabolize fat cells, and the rubbing might entice you to turn the cold water up a bit -- another way to burn a few calories every time you step into the shower. When using cellulite soap, make sure you read the labels to check whether they contain any ingredients harmful for you. It's also important to follow instructions. While some cellulite soaps are meant to be used daily, some are designed to be used less frequently -- they may actually be harmful if used everyday. Remember that like lotions and creams, cellulite soaps aren't meant to completely eliminate cellulite. But with regular use, your skin can maintain a smoother, more youthful look.
