Is there a relationship between HRT and cellulite? For many women dealing with menopause, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is still considered a primary source of relief of the symptoms. The purpose of hormone therapy is to reverse dropping levels of estrogen and other hormones in the body that decline due to menopause. This is meant to stabilize the sometimes aggressive changes that can take place in the body. However, hormone replacement therapy can contribute to weight gain and fluid retention. So what is a woman going through one of the biggest hormonal changes in her life to do? It is easy to bring up the option of just simply giving up hormone replacement therapy, but if you are suffering from the more serious symptoms of menopause , you may not find that option easy to live with. One alternative to taking HRT medication orally is to use an estrogen patch instead. The patch releases estrogen at lower concentrations than many pills and more gradually, making the physical effects less dramatic. But the estrogen patch is not for everyone. Some of its side effects include rashes and other skin problems at the site of application, especially with constant sun exposure. So to combat the effect HRT has on cellulite, a more comprehensive approach needs to be taken. A change in lifestyle may be necessary; one that includes alterations in diet and exercise. Since body fat is one of the main players in cellulite, it only makes sense that one of the ways cellulite can be reduced is …First of all, one needs to be able to differentiate between the types of fat in one’s diet. Some fats in moderation are healthy, such as unsaturated fats. This is the predominate fat in olive oil and most other oils. It is also the fat present in nuts, most types of fish (particularly salmon, sardines, and mackerel) However the other fats are very unhealthy and should be greatly limited in consumption. These are saturated fats. These fats raise cholesterol levels in the body and contribute to the blocking of the arteries. These physical effects affect blood and lymphatic fluid circulation, which can increase the appearance of cellulite. For a healthier diet, steer clear of butter and processed foods high in saturated fat. Also, when eating meat, either purchase lean cuts or adopt cooking methods such as grilling in which much fat is melted away. It is also wise to steer clear of unhealthy sugars and to stick to a balanced meal plan that includes vitamins, minerals, and protein. To supplement a healthy diet, try taking multivitamins and minerals. Exercise is the other component of post-menopausal health. Exercise becomes increasingly important as you get older - it helps to prevent injury and maintain flexibility. But even as you reach your cougar years, exercise is still one of the most effective tools against cellulite, including cellulite made worse by HRT. There are several types of exercises that a woman can adopt to reduce cellulite. Cardiovascular exercise is great for two reasons. Firstly, cardio activities such as running and bicycling get the blood pumping. This helps to not only rid of fluid retention, but gets nutrients going to where they need to be in the be (which is one of the objectives of mesotherapy). Also, cardio is a great fat-burning exercise. Strength training, which involves weights, also burns fat very well and builds muscle. More muscle almost always equals less fat as muscles use fat (and carbohydrates) to keep energized. Still confused about HRT and cellulite?
