Leg Exercises to Eliminate Cellulite

Curious about leg exercises to eliminate cellulite? Cellulite is one of the most common beauty complications there is. The harmless, but unsightly cottage cheese appearance that usually appears on women’s legs has many searching for ways to achieve smoother limbs. The common pursuit for women who can afford it has been cosmetic procedures such as liposuction and laser therapy, and effects of exercise has been greatly underestimated. There is sufficient evidence to suggest that the right leg exercises can eliminate cellulite.

In addition to getting rid of cellulite, leg exercises can leave legs looking and feeling stronger and better able to withstand the physical demands of every day.

If you have cellulite on the front of your thighs, you need to work your quadricep muscles to see results:

  • Lunges
    1. Take a set of dumbbells or a weighted barbell and hold with palms facing you.
    2. Stand with shoulders rolled back and feet shoulder-width apart.
    3. Step forward with your left foot at least two feet in front of you.
    4. Lower your right leg slowly until your knee is only a few inches from the ground. Hold the position for 2 seconds before returning to position B.
    5. Repeat steps B - D for 7-10 repetitions. Rest for 60 seconds and repeat B - D, except stepping forward with your right leg.

  • Sissy squats
    1. Take a set of dumbbells and hold with palms facing you.
    2. Stand with shoulders rolled back and feet shoulder-width apart.
    3. Without moving feet or shoulders, slowly bend knees to around 120 degrees. Hold the position for 2 seconds before returning to position B.
    4. Repeat steps B - C for 7 more repetitions. Rest for 60 seconds and repeat B - C again 8 times.

If your cellulite is mainly on the back of your thighs, then the muscles you will need to work are mainly the hamstrings and gluteus maximi (the muscles underlying fat of the buttocks):

  • Lunges (also works gluteus and hamstring muscles)

  • Lying leg curls (uses an apparatus common in gyms known as the hamstring machine). This is one of the best leg exercises to eliminate cellulite because the back of the thighs is the most common area of cellulite.

  • Kickbacks on all Fours
    1. Position yourself on all fours: with knees and palms on the ground, shoulder-width apart.
    2. Lift your left leg off the ground and kick it slowly upwards and backwards, as if pushing away a person who is standing behind you.
    3. Slowly return your leg to the ground and repeat movement 8 to 10 times before doing the same exercise with the right leg.
    4. For added exertion, use ankle weights!

In addition to doing these resistance exercises, many other activities also give the legs an extensive workout. These activities include running, bicycling, kickboxing, and standing Pilates. It is smart to combine these cardiovascular-based workouts which burn fat, with resistance or weight training exercises, which build muscle.
