What Causes Cellulite and How to Get Rid of it!

What cause cellulite? A look at what's really going on with your skin and how to make it smoother!

What causes cellulite? Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but cellulite is surely her worst enemy. The dimples in the skin are caused by pockets of fat that can be caused by poor diet, lack of exercise or merely genetics. Is it possible to get rid of what causes cellulite? It is possible, but it takes some work and sometimes a hefty monetary investment.

In order for that cellulite to decrease in appearance- or, ideally, vanish altogether- a few things have to happen. The trickiest part is also the most essential. The fat inside those cell pockets needs to be broken up. The fact that even athletic women can have cellulite is enough to indicate how difficult this process can be. Cellulite treatment lotions and creams contain aminophylline which is used to treat asthma in medicinal form. Applied externally, it is thought to soak through the skin and break down that fat until it becomes fatty acid, which is easier for your body to metabolize.

Pressure can also help break down that fat. This can be the pressure from your hands when applying the lotion vigorously to the effected area or, if you have the time and money, a mechanical device used in the procedure Endermology. That procedure requires several visits but the kneading action of the machine brings about great results as far as fat breakdown is concerned. The body wraps on the market that claim to be great for banishing cellulite don't put any more pressure on the area than you could with your hands. And there's a chance that a too tight wrap will decrease your circulation, which isn't a good thing for general health or the processing of that fat.

When that fat breaks down, it needs someplace to go. Your circulatory system (which is active as long as your heart is beating) will take care of that but you can boost its effectiveness. Most cellulite creams or lotions contain ingredients that promote increased circulation. Retinoids (which are also found in treatments for acne or wrinkles) and caffeine can help move that circulation- and the broken down fat it contains- along to be metabolized. This means that by increasing circulation, you also increase your bodies metabolic rate.

While you're working to get rid of what causes cellulite, you should also be treating the skin that's going to be left behind. Retinoids will pull double duty here and help with the smoothness of the skin. Seaweed or algae extracts are often included for their toning properties. Glycolic (or lactic) acid and collagen will also work towards making the skin smoother and tighter.

Unfortunately, there's a chance that you won't ever completely get rid of what causes cellulite. Mesotherapy- a cosmetic medical procedure that involves an injection of formula designed to increase fat breakdown while promoting circulation and metabolic action- is the best bet for those who have tried everything else without results. The procedure is done in the doctor's office under local anesthetic and requires no recovery time. You may need to have several injections depending on the amount and severity of your cellulite condition. Mesotherapy can also be used for wrinkle prevention, skin rejuvenation and weight loss.
